Minji’s journey into Pilates began after a successful 10-year career as a graphic designer in Seoul, South Korea. The physical strain from long hours of computer work led her to seek relief, and Pilates quickly captivated her with its transformative benefits. After two years of dedicated practice Minji went onto studying Contemporary Rehabilitation Pilates at ‘Musclecare’ in South Korea and later - Classical Pilates at the New York Classic Pilates Education Contrology-Culture-Project. Following her training, she worked as a Pilates instructor in Seoul and Daegu for over four years.

Since 2020 Minji has been living & working in Dublin. With a personalized approach to each session, Minji is dedicated to helping her clients enhance their strength, flexibility, overall well-being and body awareness.

Do you have any hobbies?

My hobbies change over time—some years I enjoy running, other years it’s drawing, Zumba, or attending performances. This year, teaching Pilates has kept me busy, so I’ve explored one-day classes and short trips instead. I plan to get back into running next year.

What’s your favorite place you’ve traveled to?

I’ve enjoyed every place I’ve visited, but Crete stands out. I love hot summers, and it was amazing to wear light clothes and jump into the sea whenever I got too warm. In Ireland, sea swimming takes more preparation, but in Crete, I felt at peace with the water and I miss the calmness of gazing at the horizon from the sea.

What’s your favorite Pilates exercise?

Minji Gome, Pilates Teacher at the pilates studio dublin

Footwork on the reformer is a favorite because it starts the class in a relaxed state, focusing on breathing and core engagement, which sets the tone for the session. I also love the Rowing series. I had weak shoulders at first, but with consistent practice, I’ve strengthened them and learned to connect my movements to my core. Now, I can perform them comfortably, and I feel proud each time I do.

And what about your least favorite exercise?

The Going Up Front on the Electric Chair isn’t my favorite, but it’s essential for managing my lower back pain.

What do you like most about teaching Pilates?

In Pilates classes, many people come to maintain a consistent exercise routine, while others seek relief from pain. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness students’ progress, especially when they experience noticeable improvements in their powerhouse strength, centering, and posture. I also love seeing how Pilates helps alleviate pain and boosts energy, with students’ faces lighting up as they feel better. The moments when students share their progress and support one another are truly priceless.
